Payroll Administrator

The Payroll Administrator will work as part of a team of professionals to ensure accurate and timely execution of all payroll functions.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Complete full cycle payroll on a bi-weekly basis for both salary and hourly employees:
    o Create and maintain employee changes in the payroll system;
    o Analyse information from time capture system;
    o Process payroll and verify accuracy;
    o Transmit direct deposit file to bank;
    o Produce GL export file and upload into the financial system;
    o Issue Record of Employment (ROE);
    o Distribute post payroll reports;
    o Update benefit changes in both payroll and benefits carrier (GWL);
    o Create and submit 3rd party remittances (CRA, garnishments, savings plan, etc);
    o Enter, validate US payroll and submit 401K contributions;
    o Filing.
  • Monitor central payroll email and voicemail and be a primary (rotating) point of contact for employees on payroll related matters
  • Monthly salary and hourly payroll accrual
  • Month end GL balancing including creating journal entries if necessary
  • Reconciliation and remittance of WCB payments
  • Year end activities including producing, balancing and filing of: T4, T4A and WCB
  •  Work in accordance with established policies and procedures and applicable government regulations;
  • Administer personal use of company vehicle taxable benefits monthly; and
  • Actively participate (both as a team and individually) in numerous planned and ad hoc projects.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years of payroll experience, preferably within the oilfield services sector;
  • Possession of PCP certification, or enrolled in the PCP program;
  • Superior “team” and “customer service” orientation;
  • Demonstrated experience with system (ie upgrades, changes to interfaces, etc) and application testing;
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office (Excel in particular) are required;
  • Good working knowledge of provincial (Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan and Manitoba) Employment Standards;
  • Working knowledge of Avanti and/or Spira is an asset;
  • Dedication and commitment to ensuring deadlines are achieved;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Good working knowledge of benefits programs and provisions.
