Buyer/Procurement professional – Lethbridge, AB

In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the purchasing department, developing purchasing plans, tracking vendor performance; as well as analyzing our current buying systems and implementing best practices for day-to-day purchasing operations. A leader in your own right you are adept at balancing your natural abilities to take ownership of your role with a true team spirit of no job is too big OR too small.

As the Purchaser for our client you will be tasked with the following:

  • Overseeing the entire purchasing process
  • Analyzing current inventory patterns, identifying deficiencies, proposing and implementing new inventory planning methods
  • Preparing a supply plan based on the approved forecast and budgets
  • Developing and maintaining the budget for the department
  • Managing contracts and relationships with vendors, this will include price negotiations
  • Responsibility for in-stock %, excess and obsolete %, and other KPI’s
  • Tracking and improving supplier performance related to on time delivery, on time booking, and lead times
  • Ensuring adequate inventory levels are maintained for the entire company
  • Expediting purchase orders and re-directing existing inventory
  • Regularly reviewing and setting safety stock levels
  • Providing product availability updates to all locations, including transferring products between locations in order to maximize turn over and reduce obsolete inventory
  • Producing life cycle management – reviewing under performing SKUs and making recommendations to discontinue
  • Analyzing new product performance and benchmarking sales on new products vs current products
  • Understanding, and capitalizing on, supplier loyalty programs
  • Managing and directing yearly inventory count process
  • Overseeing of the merchandising and proper bin placement for each location.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Diploma, or Degree in Business, Operations or Supply Chain – candidates with this education will be strongly assessed
  • Minimum 5 years’ in purchasing and/or supply chain management/planning, ideally within the retail industrial supplies arena
  • Advanced user in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, charts, etc.)
  • Extremely accurate with high attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, organize and multitask
  • Analytical by nature, with the ability to interpret large data sets and convey that information in a succinct, simple manner
  • Proven history of developing effective inventory management policies
  • Great people, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Negotiation and conflict resolution skills
