Arena Team Lead – Evenings

Our client, a Non-profit organization, is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and managed and operated by staff and volunteers. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Arena Team Lead is responsible for the safe and efficient operations of the facility, including providing excellent customer service to students, staff and the general public. In addition, the successful candidate will assist with training, and supervising of the operations staff along with initiating facility enhancement program opportunities. This position operates 36 hours/week and will predominantly work evenings and weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) as directed to suit the business operations. The successful candidate must be able to perform physically demanding tasks and will regularly be required to lift, bend, and kneel.


  • Responsible for daily ice maintenance, ensuring the quality and safety conditions are met
  • Troubleshoot arena plant and equipment; including the ice resurfacer
  • Assist in ice removal and installation
  • Assist in staff scheduling
  • Track and complete ordering of arena supplies through selected vendors
  • Assist in training arena staff
  • Support Athletics & Recreation for events as assigned
  • Light custodial and lifting duties
  • Minor carpentry and related facility repairs
  • Provide high level customer service to clientele including handling customer concerns, inquiries, crowd control, applying various regulations, and maintaining a secure facility


  • Arena Operations Level I is highly recommended
  • Class 5 Drivers License and the ability to drive the ice resurfacer
  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Recreation Facilities Management Certificate (RFMC) is an asset
  • Related industry experience, with leadership experience
  • Experienced in refrigeration plant operations and maintenance procedures, including ice making knowledge and experience
  • Must have or willing to obtain current WHMIS, First Aid, AED certificate
  • Must be able to pass a recent police record check with vulnerable sector verification
  • Must be able to work extended hours, evenings and weekends, as required
  • Experience leading and maintaining a safe work environment; including the safe handling of hazardous materials, and knowledge of the Alberta HS&E work standards
  • The ability to work on a slippery surface, do physical labour, and work with heavy equipment is required
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
